Nationals Day 2

We ended up only playing two games today even though we were expecting to play three.  In short, 3 (Carleton being one of them) of the 5 teams in our pool had a 3-1 record.  As a tie-breaker, it went to point differential and CUT had +15 points from this entire weekend thus far.  Apparently that's at least +6 more than the other two teams (which means we won our pool and don't need to play that third game).

You can follow Dan Powers' (Luke Powers' dad) cutrules twiter feed here:
It's pretty amazing how fast he can type on his blackberry.

Nationals Day 1:

So my laptop power cord is stripped and so I decided not to bring my laptop.  This means no pictures for the next 3 days or so... (using David Long's right now.)  CUT goes 1-1 day 1 losing to Harvard...  Only 3 (maybe 2) days left of CUT 2010.

Spring Concert

Carleton's Spring Concert is today.  Jack is coming up to visit me.  Idk when though ... strong communication has never been our forte...

Posting more senior portraits mostly because I have nothing else to post...  :)

Final Weeks of Spring Term '10

So I've spent about 5-7 hours on my final sculpture project between yesterday and today.  Mostly just cutting metal and welding.  I've gotten pretty efficient with welding, (even though its caused a couple burn marks through my jeans and shoes...) but my welds are far from pretty.

A Few more Weeks of Sophomore Year

Sorry i didn't post yesterday.  Spent like 4 or 5 hours in Boliou working with rusted rebar (metal rods).  Here's a little double dosage of pics.  Very lightly edited more so because I'm pretty busy right now.  All of them are from Empty Bowls.

A Little Bit about Last Term

So maybe I didn't get all that many good photos of Empty Bowls...  I think one of the biggest things I miss from last year is having so much free time that'd I'd go to the ceramics room about 2 to 3 times a week, but now I just don't have time to do it anymore... Nor have I been at the climbing wall since the beginning of last term :(

Sky Replacement

So this is my second sky replacement ever.  Pretty proud of it overall I must say.  I didn't think I could pull of a convincing sky replacement against a tree-filled skyline in a non-pixel based editing manner.  Without further adieu, the original and the edits:
Woops.  I didn't realize how much I had obviously messed up on the sky replacement in the upper left corner.  Here's the re-edit.  The grass is also greener now :)

Empty Bowls

I was assigned to shoot Empty Bowls today.  I was quite surprised to see a small handful of other campus photographers there as well.  I didn't spend too long there cause I was missing class to do it.  This isn't the best shot I had though, I just haven't had time to go through them all.

Chi Town

So I was thinking about going to Chicago the first week after school gets out because I have to, to get a French Visa.  But there is are a lot of intermediate steps I wasn't aware of so I don't know if I'll have everything done and together by that time.. hmm..

Officially Staying in Nofo

So I landed a not-so-great paying marketing internship here with Northfield Enterprise Center for this summer.  I really do think this will be a great though probably pretty high stress job.  Basically small businesses are coming to me for business advice and I'm suppose to help them with social marketing tools, cheap/free online resources, and help them make business decisions.  The way I see it, I get to experiment in a low-risk manner of course) with other people's money.  I think they took me for a very introductory graphics design background and having first-hand experience with my mom's nail salon: Royal Nails.

Alumni Weekend is Almost Here

Didn't get much hw done last weekend (regionals) and I don't think I'll be getting much done this weekend (alumni weekend) either...

Sculpture II

So my second sculpture was outside between Hulings and Mud, but turns out it was too dangerous and a liability.  So it was moved somewhere behind Boliou.  Oh well, I didn't really like the piece anyways.

Owatonna, MN

The TRIO retreat was at The Gainery Conference Center of the University of St. Thomas in Owatonna, Minnesota.  it was pretty extravagant.  Great food, great beds, and a great time.  I also got to pet a horse for the first time :)

Regionals Day 2

CUT secured their spot in Natties yesturday.  But we definately don't want to lose in the stadium on home turf.  On another note, GOP is also in a very interesting spot and is very capable of securing one of the four bids to Natties this year!!

The Yearbook '10

I wanted to post a couple senior portraits today, but I've just been soo busy and haven't really had time to go through those pics.  A couple disclaimers though, they're not playing me to do any post processing and the wanted me to keep it really quick/fast-paced, so I didn't set up my shots as much as one would expect for a yearbook.

Pics above are from Blue Mondays.

Carleton's Yearbook

It's been a busy couple weeks so I haven't been able to keep up the flow of phenomenal pics.  All my classes decided to have their midterm equivalent this week.

Shooting for Carleton's yearbook tomorrow, lots of set up in not a lot of time.  I didn't really get the details until last night so I couldn't start figuring everything out till this morning.  It should go well though ... I hope.  :)

Finding Joy in the Journey and not the End

The first picture isn't that interesting at all, I'll admit.  But isn't that lighting phenomenal?  The second one is much more interesting.  Reminds me of a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean.  One of these photos is an HDR image.  Can you tell which one?

Last weekend was probably the most eventful and interesting weekend I've ever had at Carleton.  Unfortunately I can't really sure the details.  But the things said and the events that happened got me thinking about the relativity of life.  I've been a relativist for a while, but I guess I just had a little reminder of it.  Recently I've been getting a lot of "no"(s) from people, places, etc.  Sorry, you didn't receive this fellowship; you did not get the position for this job; turns out this cheap place is Paris is a scam, etc.  But what about that excitement you feel while you wait for these responses.  I know even though I knew I was under qualified for most everything I applied for, I still fancied the thought of getting one of them.  And really, the application process for getting a summer job should be somewhat enjoyable, and not really a hassle.  Ultimately when your trying to find cheap housing in Paris, your life is going pretty well.  Relative to my current concerns they were the worst of my worries.  They've since then been dwarfed by recent events.

Chips & Salsa

I guess this photo shows you how much photoshop can change the mood of an image just through simple alterations such as colors.  Nothing you didn't already know though.

As for the chips and salsa, other than being an amazing late night, quick, and cheap snack, I've made good friendships through sharing this snack.  So if you don't have many friends, the thing to do is definitely keep a supply of blue corn chips and salsa!

Still HDR

This one is slightly more subtle ... but still pretty obvious if you know what HDR is.  Still one of my current fav images I've captured/created thus far.
